Our story

About Great Lakes Valais

A small family farm in Holly, Michigan, dedicated to raising registered Valais Blacknose sheep with care, integrity, a whole lot of love, and over a century of combined sheep raising experience.

Our story

How it all began

Great Lakes Valais was founded by the Scramlin family who fell head over heels for the Valais Blacknose — the famously fluffy, black-faced sheep originating from the Valais region of Switzerland. What started as a dream became a focus of our working farm in the rolling countryside of Holly, Michigan, where we have raised Southdown sheep since the 1980s.

We sourced only the finest registered Valais bloodlines, working closely with reputable breeders to build a flock that meets the breed standard in conformation, markings, temperament, and fleece quality.

Every lamb born on our farm is socialized with care and raised with the attention they deserve. We believe that happy, well-handled sheep make better companions, better show animals, and better breeding stock.
